SIGHT N' SOUND CAT TOY

The At Play Sight N' Sound Cat Toy (hereinafter called a "cat toy" or a "ball") is a two-toned plastic ball that has LEDs inside that flash and it emits a sound like a chirping bird; both activate automatically when your cat bats it around on the floor.

 SIZE

This ball is ready to use as soon as you remove it from your shopping bag (if necessary) and remove the cardboard from the ball itself.

Set the ball on the floor, and let your kitty bat it around. Every time your kitty's paw smacks it (and it does not need to be smacked hard), the LEDs in it will blink and the unit will emit a sound like a chirping bird. The unit will continue to flash and chirp for three or four seconds, then automatically turn off until it is struck by your cat's paw again.

This appears to be a disposable product; there does not appear to be a way to change the batteries in it when they poop out. So I don't have to tell you how to smash the ball open or which part you need to throw on the ground and then punt into the litterbox.

This is a cat toy meant to be placed on the floor and then batted around by your kitty cat, not a flashlight meant to be carried around, thrashed, trashed, and abused; so I won't try to flush it down the toilet, bash it against a steel rod or against the corner of a concrete stair, let my housemate's kitty cat's ghost go to the bathroom on it, run over it with a 400lb Rascal, or perform other indecencies on it that a regular flashlight might have to go through. So this section of the web page will be significantly more bare than this section of the web page on a page about a flashlight.

Since there is no kitty cat in this house, I cannot test this product in the manner in which it was intended to be used, and therefore, cannot apply a final rating.

Quicktime movie (.mov extension) showing the cat toy's patterns.
This clip is approximately 3.5 megabytes (3,701,892 bytes) in length; dial-up users please be aware.
It will take no less than ten minutes to load at 48.0Kbps.
I cannot provide it in other formats, so please do not ask.

TEST NOTES:
Test unit was purchased at Wallgreens on 04-20-05. My housemate's kitty kicked the bucket (went over the Rainbow Bridge) before I had a chance to test it with him, so I have no way of testing this product in the manner in which it was intended to be used.

UPDATE: 11-21-05
I received an email this morning from a person who uses this product:

It works as intended. My cats love the damn thing. When it gets lost I'm not in a hurry to find it. The chirping is going to drive me insane. But they like it so it stays until the batteries run out. Which with my luck will be never.
