The 32xLED UV retrofit bulb is a retrofit that turns your 3-C or 3-D Mag-Lite into an LED UV source that is very resistant to drops, knocks, and bangs unlike fragile glass "flourescent" "lite" "blubs" . It uses an array of 32 5mm near-ultraviolet LEDs.

 SIZE

To use this retrofit, just follow these easy instructions:
  1. Unscrew and remove the top lens ring from your Mag-Lite.
  2. Remove the reflector and incandescent blub.
  3. Insert the retrofit bulb; push straight down on it until it does not move down any more.
  4. Screw the top lens ring back on your Mag-Lite.
  5. Twist top of Mag-Lite's head fully clockwise until it stops.
To get light, press the rubberised button on the side of the Mag-Lite's barrel until it clicks, and then release it. Press and release it the same way again to turn it off. This is continuous or hands-free mode.

For momentary or signalling mode, press the button more lightly (before it clicks) and hold it that way for as long as you need the light; releasing the button turns the light off.

To feed your Mag-Lite equipped with this retrofit, unscrew & remove the tailcap, and set it aside. Dump the dead D cells into a large, heavy-duty garbage can (we don't have a battery reclamation program here in Washington - please recycle them if you do); and slide three new D cells in with the button (+) end going in first. Screw the tailcap firmly back on, and go about your business. Be sure to empty that garbage every now and again; you don't want rats or flies.

Current usage measures 811mA on my DMM's 4A scale. This equates to 25.34mA per LED. So the LEDs are overdriven, but not terribly so.

Because this is a replacement bulb for an existing flashlight, I will not beat it against a steel rod or against the corner of a concrete stair, stomp on it, try to drown it in a toilet, run over it, or bestow upon it other misfortunes that may be bestowed upon flashlights, so this section of their web page will be QUITE bare.

As a flashlight, the unit is reasonably sturdy (as all Mag-Lites are), and is of a proven physical design. Mag Instruments (of which Golden Gadgets has *no* affiliation!) has been making flashlights for years, and they have a long track record for durability.

As you can see in the photograph at the top of this web page, there is a resistor connected to each LED. This will not only limit the current to each LED, but if one LED fails shorted, the other LEDs will continue to function.

Estimated wavelength is 402nm to 405nm.

Wavelength is too short for me to obtain an intensity reading on this product.
