Viva Piñata™ Party Light, retail (free?*) (www.burgerking.com)
Manufactured by (Unknown) for Burger King (www.burgerking.com)
Last updated 05-28-09

This is a Viva Piñata™ figure named Spalding Sparrowmint with a dirty little secret: inside his body is a smaller figure of Hudson Horstachio that's actually a dim yellow light!

In the lower of the two photographs above, you can see (from left to right):
Franklin Fizzlybear, Hudson Horstachio, Fergy Fudgehog, and Ella Elephanilla.

All of these plus three (actually, six, because each one has two variations) more Viva Piñata™ figures were being given away at Burger King restaraunts.
I was not able to find the Viva Piñata™ figures on the Burger King website, so the above URL simply leads to their front door.

* Free I think; if you purchased food.
I paid $24.95 for all sixteen figures on Ebay in late-November 2007.
I purchased these because I love the Viva Piñata™ TV program; this is the same reason I snagged all those Digimon™ plush, D3 digivice, scanning D-Tector, digimon analyser, talking Guilmon, and CD-ROM / DVD episodes over the last five or six years.

I even memorised the words to the Viva Piñata™ opening (theme) songs:

(Season 1)
{Hudson Horstachio} It's party time!

Viva Piñata
Filled with fun (filled with fun!)
Viva Piñata
Don't beat 'em, join 'em (woo!)
Viva Piñata
Filled with fun {Franklin Fizzlybear}(filled with fun!)
Viva Piñata
Don't beat 'em, join 'em (don't beat 'em, join 'em!)

{Voice, not singing}
Welcome to picturesque Piñata Island.
In its many gardens all matter of pinatas live, dance, and dream that one day,
They will be chosen to entertain at a party as only piñatas can.
Well, most piñatas that is...

{Fergy Fudgehog} O fudge!

{Singing resumes}
Shake it, shake it, shake it like a party animal
Break it, break it, break it like a party animal
Shake it, shake it, shake it like a party animal
Break it, break it, break it, break it, break it, break it, break it

Viva Piñata
Filled with fun (filled with fun!)
Viva Piñata
Don't beat 'em, join 'em (woo!)
Viva Piñata
Filled with fun {Ella Elephanilla} (filled with fun!)
Viva Piñata
Don't beat 'em, join 'em

{Yelled}
Viva Piñata!

(Season 2)
{Hudson Horstachio} It's party time!

Woo-hoo!
Yeah!
Oh yeah!
Viva Piñata
{Fergy Fudgehog} Viva, viva Piñata yada yada!
There's a place where everything's sweeter,
Step on the candiosity meter.
Meet all of the candy filled creatures! (Party animals!)
All piñatas love to dance.
Feel the music start to prance.
Boogie like there's ants in our pants!

{speaking, not singing}
Welcome to picturesque Piñata Island.
In its many gardens all manner of piñatas live, dance, and dream that one day,
They will be chosen to entertain at a party as only piñatas can.
Well, most piñatas that is...
{Fergy Fudgehog} O fudge!

{singing resumes}
Shake it, shake it, shake it, like a party animal!
Break it, break it, break it, like a party animal!
Shake it, shake it, shake it, like a party animal
Break it, break it, break it, like a party animal! (break it, break it, break it, break it!)

Love to bop and love to bounce.
But it's what's inside that counts,
Delicious candy in large amounts! (Party animals!)
So grab a stick and take a swing!
Do the piñata thing!
Come to the place where party is king!

Viva Piñata!

 SIZE

On this web page, I'll only explain the workings of the Spalding Sparrowmint with the hidden flashlight inside.

Wrapped around Spalding Sparrowmint's body is a strip of transparent plastic. Remove it with scissors or a knife (ask a grown-up to do this part if you aren't an adult already).

Pull the two halves of Spalding Sparrowmint's body apart; a Hudson Horstachio-shaped thing should now fall out.

On the upper part of Hudson Horstachio's body (where you might normally see a saddle) is a blue button. Press & hold down this button to turn the yellow LED on; release the button to turn the LED off.

This is the little booklet (six pages including the front & back covers and the insert) that comes with each one.
It's rather vibrant and colorful; that's why I chose to photograph it for this web page.

Product appears to have been designed to be disposable (there is no way I can see to nondestructively change the batteries); so I will not have any additional information for this section of the web page.

This is designed to be a novelty product, not a flashlight designed to be thrashed, trashed, and abused. So I won't throw it against the wall, stomp on it, try to drown it in the toylet bowl or the cistern, run over it, swing it against the concrete floor of a patio, use a ball peen hammer in order to bash it open to check it for candiosity, fire it from the cannoñata, drop it down the top of Mt. Erupto (I guess I've been watching the TV program "Viva Piñata" too much again - candiosity is usually checked with a laser-type device on a platform with a large readout (located at Piñata Central), with a handheld wand that Langston Lickatoad uses, or with a pack-of-cards-sized device that Fergy Fudgehog uses; the cannoñata (also located at Piñata Central) is only used to shoot piñatas to piñata parties away from picturesque Piñata Island, and Mt. Erupto is an active volcano on Piñata Island {In the episode "Les Saves the Day...Again", Paulie Preztail says "Hey, ever wonder why this park's called 'Mount Erupto' anyway?", then Franklin Fizzlybear says "I think its an old native term. Means 'very safe.'"}), send it to the Daystrom Institute for additional analysis, or inflict upon it punishments that flashlights may have inflicted upon them.

These piñatas have surprises inside, but ***NOT*** candy.

So this section of the Viva Piñata™ Party Light's web page will seem a bit more bare than this section of the web page on a page about a flashlight that was born to be a flashlight and nothing but a flashlight.

As an aside, Fergy Fudgehog normally dreads going to the cannoñata to be shot to a piñata party (and usually makes a concerted effort to avoid it!), but in one recent episode ("Les the Jet Setter"), Fergy finds Les' jet backpack and has no trouble at all being marched to the cannoñata multiple times (at times with gentle persuasion from Langston) because Fergy quickly figures out that the jet pack allows him to avoid piñata parties with sugar-crazed children wielding baseball bats.

Although there is a printed warning advising the user to not shine the light directly into his or her eyes, the light is not super intense (it measured 310mcd), so the little ones will not hurt their eyes after ignoring the warning and staring directly into it anyway.

The instructional material states that this product is intended for use by those aged 3 and up.

A fan of the website did remark that there is a possible choking hazard (from the small light itself; not the outer part it fits into), but there is no warning of any type anywhere in the instructional material advising of this.

The light itself measures ~2.10" long, ~1.76" high, and ~0.77" wide.

Yeah, it's only the right thing to do - putting that legal crap (copyright notice) just above this line.

UPDATE: 01-26-08
The episode "Les the Jet Setter" is on this morning; I'll get to see Fergy not be afraid of the cannoñata.

UPDATE: 02-10-08

There is an episode called "CANDiOSiTY"; this is a photograph of the TV screen showing just that.

UPDATE: 07-27-08
The episode "Invasion of the Boogie Snatchers" prominently features Spalding Sparrowmint; this rather lovely looking bird is just a horrible, HORRIBLE singer.
This episode was on yesterday morning.

As a minor thing here, this is the first update I've made to this website from my new address on Forastera Circle in Sacramento CA. USA.

UPDATE: 08-17-08
This shows that I'm rather hooked on these party animals:

It's my Viva Piñata™ poster, showing several of the characters from the program.

You can see (clockwise from the top):

One of many Buzzlegums (the bee-like character)
Hudson Horstachio
Paulie Preztail
Fergy Fudgehog
Franklin Fizzlybear

UPDATE: 08-22-08
Check out this photograph:

It's my second Viva Piñata™ poster, showing several of the characters from the program.

You can see (from left to right):

Hudson Horstachio
Fergy Fudgehog

UPDATE: 09-06-08
Here are three more photographs of Viva Piñata™ products I've recently obtained:

It's my second Viva Piñata™ T-shirt.

It's my third Viva Piñata™ T-shirt.
In it, you can see (clockwise from the top) Hudson Horstachio, Paulie Preztail, Franklin Fizzlybear, and Fergy Fudgehog.

It's my third Viva Piñata™ poster, showing several of the characters from the program. In it, you can see Dr. Quackberry, Cecil Cocoadile, and a sheep (behind Cecil) who's name I don't know.
Sheep have only played a major role in one episode that I'm aware of; it's the one where the sheep keep trashing gardens, and Tina & Teddington Twingersnap keep getting blamed for it.

UPDATE: 09-20-08

My fourth Viva Piñata™ poster; it arrived on the afternoon of 09-18-08.
In it, you can see (clockwise from top):

Pierre Parrybo
Hudson Horstachio
Fergie Fudgehog
Paulie Preztail
Franklin Fizzlybear
