LASERSHADES FOR RED LASERS

LaserShades for Red Lasers, retail $29.99 (www.wickedlasers.com...)
Manufactured by Wicked Lasers (www.wickedlasers.com)

This product does not emit light of its own, so the standard review format will not be used; however, since I consider them "test equipment", they will be furnished with a "star" rating. This web page will consist of just some informational text, four photographs, and two spectrographic analyses.

These are laser safety goggles designed for the red (650nm) diode laser.

They have acrylic lenses, a plastic frame, and a pair of temples (stems) like regular eyeglasses so that they don't just fall off.

Size of product w/hand to show scale SIZE

When you purchase the "6 pack" special of the Pulsar™ {Pulsar™ Series laser unit (the 75mW one in this case), Wicked cap set, blue (red-blocking) "LaserShades", Dragon Case, 10 pcs Wicked Lasers balloons, and a gift box}, this pair of blue "LaserShades" laser safety goggles in a zippered pouch is present. Power output of the Pulsar™ (75mW) when attenuated by these goggles is just 0.06138mW (~61.4µW) - well within CDRH Class II limitations (To put it simply, this allows an intrabeam exposure (looking directly down the barrel) of 250mS (1/4 of a second) with absolute impunity). The goggles also come with a cleaning cloth; found in the zippered pouch with the goggles themselves.

Me with the goggles on as they are intended to be used.

Spectrographic analysis
Spectrographic analysis of sunlight to use as a control.

Spectrographic analysis
Spectrographic analysis of sunlight with these goggles placed in front of the spectrometer's light input aperture.
Note the cutoff between ~575nm and ~685nm.

TEST NOTES:
Test unit was furnished with the Wicked Lasers Pulsar™ Red Laser Module that I purchased from was purchased from www.wickedlasers.com on 07-05-07 (or "05 Jul 2007" if you prefer), and was received on 07-09-07 (or "09 Jul 2007").

The primary reasons that this product received 4 stars and not 5 is because the transmission at the 650nm design wavelength is still a tad high, and because they offer no protection against laser radiation coming in from the sides, top, or bottom.
