(IMPORTANT!!!)
I've had this for quite a few years now, that's why it does not look brand spanken new in the above photograph!!!

This product does not emit light of its own, so the standard review format will not be used and the product will not be assigned a rating. This website is mostly about light-emitting products, but occasionally, you'll see non-light emitting products on it too if it's something I really like and/or use on a regular basis. It does have a yellow-green LED in it, so it's at least a bit germane to the theme of this website.

This is the Ultra Groomer, model number SM400.
It is a fully rechargeable beard and moustache (or "mustache" if you prefer) trimming appliance -- though I tend to use the product as an electric shaver in addition to the grooming tasks it is intended for. It comes with 3mm, 6mm, 9mm, and 12 mm deep hair length guides that easily snap onto the front of the unit, lubricating oil to kep it working like new, and a cleaning brush to remove unwanted hairs from the vicinity of the blades.

* Unit was purchased at a Sharper Image store in 2001; however, it has since been discontinued and is no longer available.

To use the Ultra Groomer, charge it first (as should be done with *ALL* rechargeable products), and THEN you can make that pesky beard hair fall into the toliet.

Disengage it from the unicomplex...er...uh...disengage it from the charging base.

If desired, snap on one of the hair length guides by sliding it over the blade assembly and pushing in on it gently until it snaps into place.

Turn the Ultra Groomer on by sliding the switch on its side up (toward the blade assembly).

Groom yourself.

Groom some more.

Don't forget that stray hair around your sideburns.

When finished, turn the unit off by sliding the switch on its side downward (toward the product's base), and pop it back in its included charging base.

To charge the battery in the Ultra Groomer, just snap it into its charging base and plug the "wall wart"-style charger into any standard (in north America anyway) 110 volts to 130 volts AC 60Hz two- or three-slot receptacle (or "wall outlet" or even "wall socket" if you prefer). When you have done this correctly, a yellow-green LED on the front of the product will come on.

I've since forgotten what the recommended charge time for a fully discharged battery is, but 8 hours is a good place to start here.

This is a grooming aid, not a flashlight designed to be thrashed, trashed, and abused. So I won't throw it against the wall, stomp on it, try to drown it in the toylet bowl or the cistern, run over it, swing it against the concrete floor of a porch, use a small sledgehammer in order to bash it open to check it for candiosity, fire it from the cannoņata, drop it down the top of Mt. Erupto (I guess I've been watching the TV program "Viva Piņata" too much again - candiosity is usually checked with a laser-type device on a platform with a large readout (located at Piņata Central), with a handheld wand that Langston Lickatoad uses, or with a pack-of-cards-sized device that Fergy Fudgehog uses; the cannoņata (also located at Piņata Central) is only used to shoot piņatas to piņata parties away from picturesque Piņata Island, and Mt. Erupto is an active volcano on Piņata Island {In the episode "Les Saves the Day...Again", Paulie Preztail says "Hey, ever wonder why this park's called 'Mount Erupto' anyway?", then Franklin Fizzlybear says "I think its an old native term. Means 'very safe.'"}), send it to the Daystrom Institute for additional analyses, or inflict upon it punishments that a flashlight might have to have performed on it. So this section of the web page will be ***SIGNIFICANTLY*** more bare than this section of the web page on a page about a flashlight.

This professional quality clipper features distinct snap-on guides that allow you to precisely trim hair to one of four pre-desired lengths from 3 mm (1/8 inch) to 12 mm (1/2 inch). Also, those who have slightly thicker hairs, there's a thinning guide that nicely gets longer with shorter hair. You can also utilize the clippers with no interchangeable guides to put a neat edge all around your hairline. This hair clipper is exceptionally lightweight and completely cordless which makes it even handier. It is equipped with AC adapter/recharger, cleaning brush, and lubricating oil. The two double-sided hair-length guides are 3, 6, 9, and 12 mm deep. The clipper blades can be easily removed for cleaning.

Features of the Sharper Image Ultra Groomer Cordless Hair Clippers:
  • Comes with 3, 6, 9 and 12 mm deep hair length guides.
  • Ideal for beards, mustaches.
  • Thinning guide for thick thatches.
  • Use without guide to put a neat edge on sideburns and hairline.
  • Comes with AC recharger and stand.
  • One Year Warranty

My left eye is what's known as a "googly eye" because I had a very serious (Crash Course In) brain surgery {obscure Metallica reference here} in late-2002, and now have a palsy of several facial muscles.

TEST NOTES:
I purchased the product at a Sharper Image store in downtown Seattle WA. USA in 2001; it sees very regular use -- it even travelled in my toliet bag when I moved from Sacramento CA. to Federal Way WA. USA in early-2009 so I had it at the ready without having to unpack first.

The "wall wart"-style charger is labelled to output +3 volts at 400mA
Standard polarity: outer can is (-) negative, inner pin is (+) positive.
